Nomthandazo
in her newly donated uniform for the
National reading competition - that she won
|
This
is Nomthandazo.
She
has just turned 8 and is a pupil at Gutjwa Primary School.
Both of her parents died leaving her sister to look
after her and her two
brothers. Without
parents to send her
off to school each day, she nevertheless goes.
Nomthandazo
has shown an incredible aptitude
for learning and this 8yr old has already learned
to read in both Siswati and English - beyond the level
of many children of the
same age from affluent homes. Recently
Nomthandazo won the reading finals at National
level.
But
it is hard for her to find books to read.
There
is no library and there are no reading books at
school.
|
Occasionally
either the teachers buy her a 1 rand
book from their wages or Books in Homes give
her a book.
We
want to change that …. for ALL the children
Gutjwa
Primary School
with 458
pupils, around half of whom are orphans, has no books, no library, no
drinking
water, no hand washing at the dry long drop toilets, no playground
equipment… etc
etc
And
we can change it ….. with YOUR help
The
school needs some serious infrastructure … which requires serious
finance.
But
serious money can come from the accumulation of many smaller donations
from
individuals who care.
Together,
with your help, we CAN make a difference.
Our promise
to each and every donor:
100% of your donation goes to
the school for improvements.
