Ideas
for Making A Donation
Lighten your load: If
you are in New Zealand, go into the Post Office and empty your purse or
pockets (and those of your companions) of the loose change weighing you
down and deposit it into the Gutjwa account. No
matter how
small, it is appreciated and it will help!
Lighten your clutter: Have
a personal or family 'spring clean' ... then sell, on Trade Me, E-Bay
or similar, any items you or your family no longer want ... with the
note that all proceeds will be donated to the gutjwa-appeal.org
project. This not only raises money but gives the project
greater
exposure to others who read the ad and may be interested to find out
more!
Approach your child's school:
Ask them to have an event or find some creative way for the
children to donate. One
school asked their
children do work at home or for neighbours and relatives and made it a
competition between classes to see which one could raise the most money.
If you are a biker: Ask
your club to organise a 'mystery ride' day with participants paying for
their fun day. (There is a major sponsored
motorcycle ride through England
and around Scotland. See www.rideroundthetop.org
for details of the planned ride, the riders and their bikes.
If
you don't organise your own club event, you can always sponsor these
lads!)
Throw a dinner party: and
ask your guests to pay for your wonderful cuisine ... all for a good
cause. If stars can charge thousands for a charitable catered
dinner ... how much is your lovely home cooked food and great company
worth...!
Approach your local community or philanthropic group: If you, or someone
you know, belongs to a club, ask if they might consider
sponsoring one
particular section of the upgrade – eg to build one classroom, convert
the
small office into a medical room or reticulate water for handwashing
etc.
Spread the word: Take
the idea of fund raising to your work, social club, local church, hobby
group
etc. Our goal is to succeed through the accumulation of many
small donations - so the more people involved the better. You
can
download 2 pages labelled "It Takes A Village..." at the end of the
'How to Make A Donation' page - just print it off as one double sided
sheet to hand out or pin on notice boards.
Take A South African holiday:
Many
hands will indeed make light work (and will mean fewer tradesmen to be
paid). So if you have any DIY skills, you could combine a
holiday
(the school is just 45 mins drive from the Numbi Gate entrance to the
famous Kruger National Park) with doing something really helpful......
